Down on the Bogger

This machinery was used to collect all the mined rock. The front bucket flips up and over living the rock to the carriages waiting behind. This is apparently the only working one in the world as they have now been banned as they were very dangerous.

That's interesting! What did they mine for in Tennant Creek?

Gold mainly. Tennant Creek is Australia's last gold rush town. Of course now, there are a lot other minerals mined in the area.

What a great picture and how wonderful to experience this mine. How far underground does it go?

Laura Wilson said...

Well, I didn't know that!

This section goes straight through the hill. I think it's about 20 meters or so underground. The mine goes further down from here.
